[Iftop-users] Reverse ip6 resolution

Hello, I recently had to revisit and slightly improve the patches I sent to the list in January. They are attached in this mail, and also available at <http://gitweb.fperrin.net/?p=iftop.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/ip6reverse>. Paul, can you apply them if they DTRT ? The first patch makes iftop compile on FreeBSD. The second and the third make reverse ip6 resolution available to methods beyond getnameinfo(3). The methods that correctly resolve reverse ip6 addresses are: - getnameinfo; - gethostbyaddr_r; - gethostbyaddr; - gethostbyaddr with fork. This leaves out the ares and libresolv methods, I suppose that can be fixed quickly. In patch n°3, this is done by saving the addresses in a structure that remembers the AF, which is given by the caller to resolve(). I believe this in the correct thing to do. In patch n°2, this is done by importing the getnameinfo's AF guessing to these methods. This is less intrusive. Regards, -- Frédéric Perrin -- http://tar-jx.bz

[Iftop-users] Porting iftop 1.0 to FreeBSD

Hello, Today I compiled iftop-1.0pre1 if a FreeBSD system. I had to make the following changes: - config/int_ghba_r.c uses AF_INET, which is defined in <sys/socket.h>, without #include'ing it ; - add « #define define s6_addr32 __u6_addr.__u6_addr32 » in config.h (this is used in addr_hash and ns_hash.c). FreeBSD has a note in <netinet6/in6.h> saying it is not standard ; - in resolver.c, only the getnameinfo() method tries to resolve ip6 addresses. I ported the AF guessing to the gethostbyaddr{,_r} methods, as I am not familiar with the libresolv or the ares librairies. This enables reverse ip6 resolution. The patch is attached. Could you please review it, and apply it if it DTRT ? -- Fred

[Iftop-users] iftop bandwidth counter with mpd5 interface ng0?

Hello, I'm using mpd5 for connecting to my ADSL internet through an ng0 interface (physically fxp0). The problem is that I can see the connection sessions, however the counters are not going anywhere... With the built-in ppp software's "tun" interface everything was working alright before I moved to mpd. I tried looking up this issue online, listening on multiple interfaces with promiscuous mode, or listening for network without success. Would you be so kind to share your experience with me, maybe someone already had an issue like this! Version of iftop is 0.17 on FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE-p1 with mpd v5.5. Thank you in advance! It's been the best part of 5 years since the last release of iftop, so I think we're overdue. Seeing as iftop is now included in many major distributions, and I'm not snowed under with bug reports, I can't see any reason not to call the next release 1.0. Hi! Thanks to the work of Mats Erik Andersson, I'm pleased to announce the availability of IPv6 supporting iftop packages for Debian (will most likely also work for all derivatives)! Mats patch allowing IPv6 looks sane and fixes also some other bugs (e.g. a segfault when using console parameters mutliple times). His complete patch is available at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=427852#30 for review. It addresses the following issues: * Add IPv6 support http://bugs.debian.org/427852 * Fix segfault when using the same command line argument multiple time (See http://bugs.debian.org/425488) * Fix typo in display (see http://bugs.debian.org/477928) * Use better hash Algorithm in address pairs (http://bugs.debian.org/595169) * Fix link-level address detection on kfreebsd-* (see http://bugs.debian.org/598367) Packages for testing are available in Debian's experimental branch (should also work on Debian sid/squeeze) and at http://people.debian.org/~tolimar/tmp/iftop-ipv6-backports/ (for Debian 5.0 "Lenny"). I think ideally it would sort by what you have on screen, but that requires a slightly more complicated change to the sort function. i help running a small wireless mesh. altough our p2pfilters at gateway nodes are fairly acurate, we sometimes find people resorting to all kinds of tricks to circumvent those. to ease pinpointing villains, is there a way in iptraf to sort ip address by *upload* only? /gordon
