It's been the best part of 5 years since the last release of iftop, so I think we're overdue.
Seeing as iftop is now included in many major distributions, and I'm not snowed under with bug reports, I can't see any reason not to call the next release 1.0.
Accordingly, here's the first 1.0 pre-release:

Change log is here:

Thanks to everyone who's contributed patches to this release.

Turns out that there's some stuff in the distribution that shouldn't be there and will cause the build to fail.
If you run "make iftop" rather than just "make" it should work.

Any systems you'd particularly like this tested on? I'm in the possibly rare position of being able to do this on Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, IRIX or probably also MacOS.

As many as possible :-)
I know that it currently doesn't build on Mac OS X but I've not yet investigated, and doesn't build on at least some flavours of Linux due to the reference to net/bpf.h. Of your list, at least Solaris, Linux and Mac OS X have worked in the past.
I'll release pre2 in the next day or so which fixes at least the references to counter_hash that shouldn't be there.
