There are probably several different questions that we need to answer this
evening, however in general we are trying to seek the same answer to all of
them.
As a starting point we should try and answer the question "If there were no
bells in GSM and we normally rang at (say) All Saints what would be the best
new installation for GSM ?".
Having answered that we should move on to "Do we want to preserve the present
historical ring?"
If the answer to this is yes, then we should discuss how this can be done in
combination with the answer to the first question. Several emails have given
suggestions, including some major work with new ring beams, new frame etc. It
is also reasonably clear from the reports that the present bells are probably
too heavy for the tower. A question I have is "Is it possible to retain the
present 12 and add extra bells to give whatever is the answer to my first
question ?"
We might also want to think about the ringing room. The present arrangements
do not make for a very social space - is there any possibility of utilising it
better ? Finally, and along these lines, if lots of people come tonight should
we hold the meeting in the church ?
